The story Wooden Bowls is about a man's son and daughter in law who will not allow him to eat with them at the dinner table because of him dropping his peas, spilling his milk, and breaking a couple of dishes. Instead of eating dinner with them, his son and daughter in law set up a little table in the corner of the room for him to eat alone with wooden bowls which he could not break. They even saw a tear come down Grandpa's face as he was eating one night and it did not affect them. Then, one day they saw their own son making something out of wooden scraps. They asked him what he was making and he said it was a wooden bowl for them for when they got older. In C.A.R.E.S, this story strongly relates to empathy. I think this because before they saw their son making a wooden bowl for them when they grew old, the Grandpa's son and daughter in law did not for one second try to see how Grandpa felt and look at his side. They only looked at the whole thing as a nuisance because of him breaking dishes and did not think about spending time with him at dinner. I think that a family should always try to eat dinner together no matter what the circumstances are, and the parents definitely did not do that and did not have any empathy for Grandpa.
