Lit.-Fables

The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing-Appearances can be fooling. The sheep assumed that the wolf was one of them, when in reality, he wasn't. They didn't study him and it led to them being eaten as a meal.
The Four Oxen and the Lion-Work together to achieve a common goal. The oxen always stood together and "fought" together, but one day they weren't, and the lion quickly saw its chance to take advantage of the opportunity and kill them all.
The Fisher and the Little Fish-Appreciate what you have now, don't expect more for the future. The fisherman was not sure if he would catch the fish when he grew, and he was fine with the size that the fish was at the moment, so he kept the fish.
The Crow and the Pitcher-If you work hard and think smart, there's always a way to get the job done. The crow was dying very quickly, and if he had not thought of this way to save his life, he obviously would have died. He never gave up, even though it took the water awhile to reach a height at which the bird could drink from the pitcher.
The Fox and the Goat-Think about something you're doing, and if it makes much sense, before you do it. The goat did not even bother to ask around if there was actually a drought coming, and it would have been very helpful if he did. Unless by some chance the goat gets out, he wasted his life because he didn't think before falling for the fox's trick.

Science-Ask a Geneticist

After reading about the comparison between humans and chimps, I realized how the two of us are so similiar, yet, very different. Chimps have 96 chromosomes and we have 46. There is really no similarity with the number of genes and the number of chromosomes in the human chimp case. The only reason that chimps have twice as many chromosomes as we do is because one human chromosome is the size of two chimp chromosomes. So, it's almost like we do have the same amount of chromosomes, even though we don't. Also, the sections of the two genomes that code for genes for chimps and humans are 98.8% the same and only 1.2% different. So, if our gene and chromosome amount is so similiar, why are humans and chimps so different? Well, we are very different from chimps because of the very different amount of protein made in our brains compared to our liver or our heart. The proteins are similiar, but the different amount of protein being made in the brain could be the reason to why humans and chimps are so very different from eachother.

Lit.-Wooden Bowls

The story Wooden Bowls is about a man's son and daughter in law who will not allow him to eat with them at the dinner table because of him dropping his peas, spilling his milk, and breaking a couple of dishes. Instead of eating dinner with them, his son and daughter in law set up a little table in the corner of the room for him to eat alone with wooden bowls which he could not break. They even saw a tear come down Grandpa's face as he was eating one night and it did not affect them. Then, one day they saw their own son making something out of wooden scraps. They asked him what he was making and he said it was a wooden bowl for them for when they got older. In C.A.R.E.S, this story strongly relates to empathy. I think this because before they saw their son making a wooden bowl for them when they grew old, the Grandpa's son and daughter in law did not for one second try to see how Grandpa felt and look at his side. They only looked at the whole thing as a nuisance because of him breaking dishes and did not think about spending time with him at dinner. I think that a family should always try to eat dinner together no matter what the circumstances are, and the parents definitely did not do that and did not have any empathy for Grandpa.
