In the last 10,000 to 40,000 years, over 50% of large mammals in North America have been extinct. Mammoths, mastodons and giant ground sloths were three of the 35 species that dissapeared from the earth. All of these species had different habitats and ate different foods. Researches have came up with many different solutions to these deaths such as change in climate, human overkill and disease and more. People believe that it could be a combination of all the solutions, one or even none. Scientists found that the extinctions took place between 13.8 and 11.4 thousand years ago which was around the time that humans started to arrive on the planet.
Personally, I believe that these animals did die because of the humans arrival on earth. If they were living fine for thousands of years and suddenly started to all die when the humans came, I can't think of any other solution that would make much sense. Even if they started to die when the humans came, nobody knows specifically why it happened. I think that it will remain a mystery for a long time and hopefully we eventually find out the solution to this problem.
